According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several parts of India will receive rainfall in the coming days as multiple weather systems bring rainfall to the Himalayas, northeast, parts of northwest India and southern coastal regions.
The most active weather is expected across the western Himalayan region, where a fresh western disturbance will cause a wave of moisture.
The IMD has forecast isolated rain and snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad on February 13, 16 and 17, while Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to receive rain and snowfall on February 16 and 17.
Hill cities like Shimla, Manali, Srinagar, Leh and Dehradun could see cloudy skies and rainfall during this period.
In Northeast India, Arunachal Pradesh is expected to receive scattered rains on February 11, 12 and 14, bringing brief relief from dry conditions. Cities like Itanagar and Tawang may experience light rain and cloudy skies.
Parts of the northwestern plains of India could also experience weather activity later in the week. The IMD has forecast isolated rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on February 16 and 17. Cities like Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Ambala may witness brief spells of rain and gusty winds.
In southern India, Lakshadweep is likely to receive light to moderate rain on February 11, while northern Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may experience isolated rain on February 13.
Coastal cities like Chennai and Puducherry could experience brief rains under partly cloudy skies.
Forecasters say the upcoming rains are related to western disturbances moving across northern India and moisture-laden winds affecting coastal and northeastern regions.
While the rainfall is expected to be mostly light to moderate, it could lead to a drop in temperatures in northern India and an improvement in air quality in some urban areas.
The IMD has advised residents of the affected regions to remain alert for thunderstorms and lightning, especially in northwest India later this week.
The spell of rain marks a change from the mostly dry conditions seen across most of the country in recent days, leading to changeable skies and cooler weather in several regions.
