It is being dubbed “terrible April” with a series of domestic bills to go up in the next few days.
If your council tax is increasing, or you are buying a house and facing a high stamp duty bill, it cannot do much.
But when it comes to other bills, such as energy, water or broadband, there are three strategies here that can help reduce pressure.
1. Shop around
For some services you can often get a better deal by calling the company with which you are and are saying that you are considering leaving.
“Make shopping for better deals, and giggle with your existing provider,” says Professional Services Group Evelyn Partners’ Ellis Has.
“It is always worth disturbing. Hagley for everything.”
This applies to a full range of bills including insurance, energy and broadband.
“Our research suggests that if you are out of the contract, switching providers can pay broadband, TV and mobile bills by £ 235,” calls Emily Seamor from Consumer Group?
Gas and electricity often face the largest bills and the price cap fixed by the regulator is increasing 6%, so it is worth finding the best deal for you.
This may include choosing a fixed rate deal, says Ms. Semore. If you charge an electric vehicle or use overnight devices, see a deal with an inexpensive night tariff.
She says, “We will also recommend taking a meter reading about 31 March to ensure that you bill the right amount for your energy use.”

2. Cut back
A certain way to keep your bill down is to reduce what you use.
Taking small rainfall and pouring into a showerhead with slow flow will save money on your water and energy bills.
“You have to treat water as an expensive resource,” Ms. Hen says.
You can save money from being a water meter fit, she says.
Smart meters for electricity and gas can also help you keep an eye on pushing your energy bills, Energy Saving Trust says.
The trust recommends a draw-proofing to your home, including round floorboards, pipework and old extractor fans, and set the thermostat to the lowest comfortable temperature. For most people, it says, it is between 18 ° C and 21 ° C.
Moneysavingexpert says that you can save money using theory: “Heat the human, not home”. Using warm water bottles and electric blankets should do cheaper work than turning radiators.
You can also change the settings on a combi or traditional boilers to save money, Martin Lewis said in Mantinians.
When it comes to transporting bills, you can avoid vehicle tax growth until you lose the car completely.
But if you are taking the train, then it is also worth checking whether a rail card will help, Ms. Seemor tells.
“To cut the cost on rail fare, we would recommend booking tickets in advance and divide the rent where possible,” she says.
3. get help
If you are struggling to pay your domestic bills, do not panic, Richard Lane, the Chief Customer Officer of the Stepition Loan Charity says. He suggests a detailed budget that catches all your income and expenditure.
“This will allow you to get a clear picture of your finance and see how much you have to pay or save to any loan,” they say.
Then check what support you are entitled to.
Water companies provide less “social” and difficulty tariffs for very low -income people, so it is worth calling your provider. People claiming benefits can often get less tariffs for broadband.
“These organizations have a regulatory responsibility for the fair behavior of customers and you will be able to provide you support,” Mr. Lane said.
The government has a hot house exemption for high energy cost people on very low income including pension credit. And people with low income are also eligible for the decrease in council tax.
Check if you qualify for free TV license. If you are more than 75 and pension are on credit or live with someone you will do.
