Rhode Island, the smallest state in the United States, appears to have received the most snow during this storm.

In fact, it is the worst snowstorm to ever hit the stateaccording to local media.

Providence, the state capital, received 33 inches (83 cm) of snow, breaking the existing record for the largest snowstorm, 28.6 inches (72.6 cm), set in February 1978.

“It completely destroyed it,” Candice Hrencecin, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Boston, told the New York Times. “We were just as surprised as everyone else.”

A city spokesperson told The Providence Journal that so far 316 vehicles have been towed to park in the plow path. By the afternoon, towing operations had ceased and drivers were helping people whose vehicles had become stuck.

The travel ban remains in place and four key bridges have been closed due to the weather.

According to Poweroutage.us, nearly 44,000 power outages were reported across The Ocean State as of Monday afternoon.
