Indian content creator Sachin Awasthi claims he was detained and denied entry upon landing on South Korea’s Jeju Island, an incident he says turned into a 38-hour ordeal across two countries along with closely monitored transit through China.
In a detailed caption, Awasthi wrote: “Detained for 38 hours in South Korea (Jeju Island) and China.” He said that they had landed on Jeju Island full of excitement. “We landed on Jeju Island, South Korea, excited and ready for our trip. Within a few hours, everything changed,” he shared.
According to Awasthi, immigration officials denied them entry and escorted them to a detention area without offering them a clear explanation. “We were denied entry and taken to a waiting area. Without any proper explanation, we were simply told to wait. And we waited,” he wrote.
Hours passed without clarity about their situation. He alleged that they were kept inside a detention center “similar to a jail with no sunlight and no access to the outside” and served what he described as “prison food.” He further stated: “They blackmailed us into booking a really expensive return ticket.”
The experience, he said, continued during the transit through China. “More waiting. More supervision. Communication was restricted. The telephone was not used, food was not used and water was limited. Sleeping conditions were worse,” he said.
Awasthi also alleged strict control and said, “Even the use of toilets was monitored by a police officer who had a body camera and went to the toilet with us.”

When authorities informed them they would be sent back to India, he said exhaustion had set in. “The return ticket was almost 10 times the normal price. At that time, we had no energy to argue. We just wanted to get out safely,” he wrote.
Clarifying his intention, Awasthi added: “I’m not sharing this out of sympathy or drama. Immigration decisions are their authority. But they had no right to treat us like CRIMINALS.”
Awasthi uploaded a detailed video to his YouTube channel explaining what happened, why it happened, and what travelers should know before planning similar trips.

Instagram users were shocked to hear about the ordeal. “That’s so unfair and extremely sad bro. I can’t imagine how you would have felt,” one user commented. “It must have been painful. Thank God you are safe. The biased and prejudiced treatment is horrible,” said another.
