A fire broke out in a multi-storey building in a Noida village on Wednesday (July 15, 2026), killing two people, police said.
The fire was later brought under control and around 50 tenants residing in the building at Mamura village in Sector 66 were safely evacuated, officials said.
Police said two residents, a man and a woman, who were rushed to the hospital were pronounced dead by doctors.
According to joint commissioner of police Rajiv Mishra, the ground floor building had 10 to 12 rooms on each floor which were used as residential apartments.
The owner has been arrested.
The fire appears to have been caused by an electric two-wheeler that was charged inside the building. It spread to nearby petrol-powered two-wheelers parked on the premises, Mishra said.
Seven fire units and one hydraulic platform responded to the scene immediately after the fire was reported and most residents were evacuated safely.
“Two persons, who were already in poor health, fell ill after inhaling smoke and were taken by ambulance to the district hospital,” Mishra told reporters.
An FIR has been registered at the Phase 3 police station against the building owner (the tenant) as per relevant legal provisions.
