The creators of Varanasi,directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Mahesh Babu, have announced the release date of the masterpiece film. Also starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the pan-India film is bankrolled by SS Durga Arts and Showing Business.
The film, which marks the maiden collaboration of Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu, will hit the screens on April 7, 2027. The makers announced the development with a new poster. The poster shows a meteor crashing into the Earth, hinting at an apocalyptic situation.

Billed as a “globe-trotter”, the film is touted to combine a cosmic disaster with ancient Indian mythology. In the first look of the film, released on November 16, 2025, Mahesh Babu’s character was seen riding a mechanical white bull. The look mirrored the actor’s fierce first screen appearance as a bloodstained warrior wielding a trident.

Rajamouli has revealed that an important sequence is inspired by “an important episode of the Ramayana”. The filmmaker said he never expected to tackle that material so soon. “As I wrote every scene and every dialogue, I felt like I was floating,” he told fans, adding that the 60-day shoot of the sequence was one of the most challenging of his career.
Prithviraj plays the antagonist, named Kumbha, while Priyanka plays a character named Mandakini. The first look posters of both actors from Varanasi They have created enough buzz for the film. The film is filmed for IMAX exhibition.
