Video filmed by the US immigration agent who shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday has emerged, showing the moments before the shots rang out.

The 47-second clip, obtained by Minnesota-based conservative news outlet Alpha News, shows Renee Nicole Good sitting behind the wheel of her car and talking to the officer.

US Vice President JD Vance shared the images on social media and commented that the agent had acted in self-defense. Local officials have insisted that the woman posed no danger.

Good’s wife paid tribute to the 37-year-old, saying the couple had been trying to support their neighbors when she was shot. His death has sparked protests across the United States.

President Donald Trump’s administration says Good attempted to run over the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in an act of “domestic terrorism” after blocking the highway and impeding the agency’s work.

Minneapolis Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey has described that account as “trash” based on the video.

The BBC has asked the Department of Homeland Security and the White House for comment on the new video that emerged on Friday.

The footage begins with the officer getting out of his car and filming the vehicle and Good’s license plate as he walks around the Honda pickup truck. There is a dog in the back seat.

Good says, “It’s okay buddy. I’m not mad at you.”

His wife, Becca Good, is standing on the street filming the interaction on her cell phone. She tells the ICE agent, “It’s okay, we don’t change our plates every morning just so you know. It will be the same plate when you come talk to us later.”

And he adds: “Do you want to come for us? Do you want to come for us? I tell you to go to lunch, boy.”

Another officer approaches Good from the driver’s side and says with an insult, “Get out of the car.”

The officer filming the clip moves in front of Good’s car as she backs up.

In a few chaotic seconds, he turns the wheel to the right and drives forward.

The camera rises towards the sky. “Wow, wow!” says a voice, while knocks are heard.

In the final part of the video, the car is seen swerving down the road. The ICE agent curses.

Other previously released clips from the scene show the maroon SUV crashed into the side of the road after the officer shot Good.

The officer appears to remain standing and is later seen in other videos walking toward the crashed car.

Federal officials say the agent was injured and treated at the hospital. The FBI is investigating the incident.

The officer who shot Good is Jonathan Ross, a veteran ICE agent who was previously injured in the line of duty when he was hit by a car.

Asked about the video at the White House on Friday, Trump said, “There are agitators and we will always protect ICE, and we will always protect our border patrol and our law enforcement.”

Vance reposted the video on X on Friday and defended the officer’s actions, saying, “The reality is that his life was in danger and he fired in self-defense.”

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt also shared the video and said the media had smeared an ICE agent who had “adequately defended himself from being run over.”

Good’s wife told local media that the couple had gone to the scene of the immigration police activity to support neighbors.

“We had catcalls,” Becca Good said. “They had weapons.”

Speaking about Good, a mother of three, including a six-year-old son, said “goodness radiated from her.”

“We were raising our son to believe that no matter where you come from or what you look like, we all deserve compassion and kindness,” she added.

Protesters attended the third night of protests Friday over Good’s murder.

The Minneapolis Police Department told BBC News that at least 30 people were detained, cited and released after protests downtown.

Photos showed protesters gathered outside a hotel in the city, where some ICE agents were believed to be staying.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety said it helped police officers arrest people suspected of illegal assembly, after receiving “information that demonstrations were no longer peaceful and reports of property damage” near the Canopy Hotel in the city center.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz previously said he had activated the state’s National Guard to help with security during the protests.

On Friday, Minnesota officials said they would open an investigation into the shooting after saying they had been excluded from the federal investigation.

A reporter asked Trump if the FBI should share its findings with Minnesota, and he said, “Well, normally I would, but they’re corrupt officials.”

The announcement from Hennepin County Chief Prosecutor Mary Moriarty and Democratic Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison came a day after the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said the FBI had initially promised a joint investigation but then changed course.

One federal agency that is not investigating the shooting is the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, which has investigated alleged excessive use of force by law enforcement in the past.

But prosecutors have informed their criminal section that there will be no investigation in this case, sources told the BBC’s US partner CBS News.

Walz, a Democrat, accused the Trump administration of blocking state officials, but Vance said it was a federal matter.
