This is the time of year when many of us try to “be good” because the holidays are approaching and then there will be plenty of time for (over)indulgence. And that’s mostly a reasonable stance. But I’m here to tell you that when it comes to shopping, especially gifts, you don’t have to wait until the day after Thanksgiving to relax, because plenty of early Black Friday deals are already live. (Yes, really).
However, you don’t need to spend a lot of time scouring a mountain of sales – it’s literally my job to track down the deals, tell you about the ones worth checking out, and steer you away from the ones that aren’t worth it. I’ll be here every step of the way to help you navigate the Black Friday rush, instead of getting swallowed up by it. Some retailers have already started trading and more will be coming in the coming days, which is why entering ‘smart savings mode’ now really works in your favour. You can take advantage of good sales early, before inventory starts to dwindle and before everyone else frantically panic buys at the last second.
I’ve answered some of the most common questions about the most anticipated sales of the year below, and if you’re curious about what’s on sale as we speak, I’ve also included some super early discounts I’ve got my eye on. Ready? Let’s get into it.

Black Friday FAQ
When is Black Friday?
Black Friday is always the Friday after Thanksgiving; This year, Black Friday 2025 falls on Friday, November 28. That said, since many sales start early, the entire month has been dubbed “Black November” in recent years, so keep an eye out for deals in the weeks leading up to the actual event.
Does Black Friday have deals on everything?
While there’s a chance that not every item on your wish list will be discounted for Black Friday, it’s safe to assume that many major brands will be offering sales across a variety of categories, and for some, it will be the biggest sales event of the year. What can you expect to save a lot on? “TVs, laptops, game consoles and major appliances typically reach their lowest prices around Black Friday,” says Stephanie Carls, Retail Insights expert at RetailMeNot. “The same goes for winter clothing and seasonal items that aren’t normally given as gifts.”
Do all stores have sales?
Almost all major retailers will have Black Friday deals, including Amazon, Walmart, Target, Kohl’s, Best Buy, Wayfair, and The Home Depot. Sales vary between smaller brands and independent stores, but many will participate with discounts of some kind.
Shopping strategies for Black Friday
-
Have a plan: Don’t wait until Black Friday to explore what’s on sale – create a wish list and track prices from now on. Many retailers will start offering discounts well before the big day, so if you see a really great price, act fast before items sell out. Plus, knowing in advance what you’re looking for will keep the process streamlined and fast.
-
Research, research, research: “Always do your homework!” says shopping expert Trae Bodge of TrueTrae.com. “Use a tool like Yahoo Shopping to compare prices across all retailers.” (Thanks, Trae!) Discounts can vary wildly from brand to brand, and looking at the whole picture will help you determine if something is actually a legitimate deal, not to mention saving you the most money.
-
Don’t believe everything you see: As someone who tracks sales for a living, I’ll be the first to tell you that just because something is called a deal doesn’t mean it is one. Starting prices usually increase in the days or weeks before a big shopping event to make it seem as if you are saving more than you really do. To get a better idea of a product’s price history, you can check a tracker like Honey or let our team of purchasing professionals do the work for you. We’ll be searching for the best Black Friday deals from now until the end of November, sharing our vetted picks.
