It has been one of the more unusual niche developments of the NBA season.

Early in the season, Jaylon Tyson looked like a rising star for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lately in the playoffs he’s been an afterthought.

That was further amplified in Game 6, when the Pistons won to extend the series. Tyson didn’t play until the bench warmers came in with a couple minutes left and the game out of control.

He had been in the rotation before that, but on Friday night, Tyson wasn’t in the spots where head coach Kenny Atkinson usually used him.

Tyson is clearly a talented player, now in his second season after being a first-round pick. However, the Cavs don’t seem able to trust him right now.

Where is Jaylon Tyson?

He’s not hurt or anything. He seems to have simply missed his chance.

Tyson may have hurt his cause in Game 5 in a quick sequence in which he became more physical, committed a couple of quick fouls and put himself in danger of being disciplined by the officiating crew for getting too irritable.

In fact, he also got into a fight at the end of Game 6, just before time expired.

The Cavs need their supporting cast to step up in Game 7, but it’s unclear if Tyson will be trusted at this point. He may have been positioned too erratic for Atkinson to replace him during a key moment.
