Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw shares how she wants her niece Claire Mazumdar to be her successor. Claire, the founding CEO of Bikara Therapeutics, is the daughter of Mazumdar-Shaw’s brother, Ravi Mazumdar. However, the Biocon founder has also clarified that she is not planning to leave her post right now.

In an interview, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw laid out a 5-year succession plan for her biotechnology group and identified her niece as her successor.

However, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw clarified that her niece would indeed succeed her, but not immediately. “I’m not going to resign from my position anytime soon, but I would like Claire to become my successor in a very phased manner,” Majumdar-Shaw told Reuters.
“I am the sole owner of Biocon and I have to make sure I leave it in good hands,” Mazumdar-Shaw told Fortune India in an interview.
He added, “I see my niece Claire as my successor, because I think she’s proven to me that she can run a company.”
Who is Claire Majumdar?
Born to Professor Ravi Majumdar and Katherine Rosenberg, she also has a brother, Eric Majumdar. The 37-year-old is the chief biotech specialist at NASDAQ-listed Bicara Therapeutics.
He completed his Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He earned a PhD from Stanford University School of Medicine and an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Claire Majumdar took over the role of CEO of Bikara in 2018. Previously, he worked with venture capital firm Third Rock Ventures and drug development company Rios Medicines.
She is married to Thomas Roberts. He is a renowned oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, USA.
