Wrexham prepare for championship clash against Hull

The Reds were in the FA Cup at the weekend and produced a brilliant performance against Premier League giants Chelsea, who they pushed until the end before suffering a 4-2 defeat in the fifth round after extra time.

Despite not having a Championship game, Wrexham remained in the top six and tonight host Hull City, who are one place above the Reds in fifth position.

The Tigers are three points ahead of Parkinson’s men, who have a better goal difference, so the teams would swap places if Wrexham win.

“I told the boys this is our chance to get a club back into the group, if you want, and we’re going to do everything we can to do that,” the Reds boss said.

“It’s a really exciting night for us, finding ourselves with a team around us, similar to the Ipswich league game and the magnitude of that.

“We have to look up too.

“That’s the goal. We have to be in that group above us and this gives us the opportunity to do that.”

“We have to control the team and look over their shoulders.

“They’re two good teams. Anyone who’s up there at this point in the season obviously deserves it.”

“Hull are a team that has been in the Premier League. It will be an exciting night and we will be ready at 7.45pm.”

Wrexham were the better team and the scoreline flattered Chelsea, and rival manager Liam Rosenior admitted his team took advantage of their luck before progressing to the quarter-finals.

While he is proud of his players’ efforts against the Club World Cup champions, Parkinson says they are all focused on the job at hand in the league.

“I was having breakfast with the boys and I could hear the boys talking about the focus being on Hull,” he said.

“The FA Cup is a great distraction from the league and it’s about enjoying the occasion.

“Making the performance reflect what the club and our history is about, and we have done that despite not getting the win, but now everyone knows that on Tuesday night we will be fully focused.

“It’s a great game. Saturday was the start of a very important week for the football club and Tuesday is the second stage, so let’s see where it takes us.”

“Hull lose opportunities but create them.

“It’s about us showing up and the crowd showing up again, but I’m sure they will.”
