BENGALURU: Bengaluru North City Corporation commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar has issued show-cause notices against staff who were absent during the ongoing National Census-27.
Despite being assigned census duties, 527 enumerators did not show up for their duties. They had been issued the notices and directed to submit a written explanation by April 17. Following this, the commissioner issued ‘non-death’ (unauthorized absence from work and without pay) orders against 53 enumerators.
The commissioner also emphasized that Census is a duty of national importance, and any negligence on the part of officials and staff will be strictly addressed through legal and disciplinary action without any leniency.
“Against those who have not submitted an explanation, strict action will be initiated, including registration of a criminal case, suspension and other disciplinary measures,” Kumar said.
What they face: Criminal case under Section 11 of the Census Act of 1948
FIR under Section 223 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita
Suspension and disciplinary action according to service rules.
Treat the period of unauthorized absence as dies-non (no work, no pay)
