The World Cup is here and, for the first time, the tournament will contain 48 teams, meaning 104 matches will be played, an increase of 40 compared to the previous 32-team format used since 1998. Of these matches, 72 will be played in the group stage, over a period of just 17 days.

Throughout most group stages, there are four matches in a row throughout the day. The third day will be six games a day, although the last game in each group begins simultaneously, as has been happening since the Disgrace of Gijón.
In the United States, all World Cup matches are broadcast live on the FOX network, either on FOX or Fox Sports 1. Matches are also available on UNIVERSO and Telemundo in Spanish. Although the group stage concludes on Saturday, June 27, the round of 16 begins the following day.
