Tata Motors launched the Sierra EV at a starting price of Rs 18.79 lakh. The electric SUV arrives a little over seven months after the ICE-powered Sierra, serving as a more direct rival to the Mahindra BE 6, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Vinfast VF6, Hyundai Creta Electric and MG ZS EV than the Curvv EV, which was Tata’s previous contender in this segment. Reservations are now open and deliveries will begin from July 15.

The Sierra is priced on the higher side of the mid-size electric SUV segment, and is quite close to that of the BE 6 (Rs 18.9 lakh-26.9 lakh). The Creta Electric (Rs 18.03 lakh-23.67 lakh) is the next most expensive option.

Compared to the Curvv EV, which is priced at Rs 16.99 lakh -19.19 lakh, the Sierra EV is more expensive by Rs 2.8 lakh -6.8 lakh. Meanwhile, compared to the larger Harrier EV (Rs 21.49 lakh-28.99 lakh), the Sierra EV is more affordable by Rs 2.7 lakh-3 lakh.
Battery and autonomy of the Tata Sierra EV
63kWh and 75kWh battery options
Built on the same Acti.ev+ architecture as the Harrier EV, the Sierra EV borrows the TiDAL E&E architecture from the larger SUV. Battery options comprise 63 kWh and 75 kWh units, both of which feature a single 315 Nm rear motor (RWD) as standard. The 63 kWh variants develop 238 HP, while the 75 kWh variants produce 209 HP; the larger package also offers a dual-motor AWD layout, which adds a 140 PS front motor for a combined 504 Nm of torque. With Boost mode enabled, the Sierra EV AWD accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.
The Sierra EV AWD also comes with off-road features like six terrain modes (Normal, Grass/Snow, Mud/Gravel, Sand, Rock Crawl, and Custom), low-speed cruise control, and a 540-degree camera (360-degree environment with underfloor view).
Coming up to MIDC certified range, the Sierra EV claims 665 km for its 75 kWh RWD variants, 624 km for the AWD variant and 535 km for the 63 kWh versions. Tata also boasts a charging range of up to 263 km in 15 minutes when using a 120 kW DC fast charger, with a charge from 20 to 80 percent in about 26 minutes.
Looking at 7.2 kW AC charging times, the 63 kWh battery takes 8.9 hours to charge from 10 to 100 percent, while the 75 kWh unit takes 10.5 hours to do the same. Like the rest of Tata’s EV lineup, the Sierra EV comes with a lifetime battery warranty, which really only refers to the 15-year period from the date of registration.

Mostly similar to the ICE Sierra on the outside
As is the case with Tata electric cars, the Sierra EV looks a lot like its ICE counterpart, but with minor differences. The front of the Sierra EV does away with the full-width blacked-out section between the light bar and headlights that the ICE version has, and there are also no ‘SIERRA’ letters above the Tata emblem.
Additionally, the design of the Sierra EV’s front bumper is different, with much brighter black accents. The side profile and rear of the Sierra EV are identical to its ICE sibling, save for the EV-specific badges and lettering. It has 18-inch alloy wheels, which can reach 19 inches in the higher variants. In terms of ground clearance, the Sierra EV is rated at 205mm.

Same spacious, feature-packed interior design as its ICE counterpart
Even on the inside, the Sierra EV has an identical design to the ICE version, but with slight variations in the color scheme. The Sierra EV also claims the same 622-litre boot space (measured to the roof) as the ICE Sierra; When measured to the shelf, the boot space is 450 liters. Total luggage space with the rear seats folded is 1,257 liters.
Depending on the variant, the Sierra EV offers features such as a triple-screen setup (12.3-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch driver’s display, and 12.3-inch passenger’s display), ambient lighting, a 12-speaker JBL Black sound system, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, Boss mode, cabin air purifier, power and ventilated front seats, power tailgate, Level 2 ADAS technology. connected car, automatic parking assistant, a head-up display, a digital key, over-the-air (OTA) updates, 6 airbags as standard, V2L and V2V functionality, and more. It even borrows the summon mode and DrivePay in-car payment feature from the Harrier EV.
