Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday termed the action against mutton traders from Jammu and Kashmir in Punjab as “unjustified”, saying he has once again taken up the matter with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and would seek the Centre’s intervention if the matter remains unresolved.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Center (SKICC), Omar said he has been raising the issue with his Punjab counterpart for the past few months.

“I have been in touch with the Punjab Chief Minister for months and have written to him again. Our mutton traders only use Punjab as a transit route. They do not buy cattle there. They should not be punished for simply passing through the state. Action against them is unjustified,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that if the Punjab government fails to resolve the issue, it will be raised before the Northern Zone State Council.

He added that he would also seek the Centre’s intervention to ensure that the concerns of mutton traders from Jammu and Kashmir are addressed. (NO)
