Davos: In pursuit of decarbonizing the urban landscape, the Telangana government has initiated a dialogue with the INOX Group at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026.
The discussions were led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and focused on transforming the state’s urban core into a ‘Net Zero’ zone while ensuring renewable energy for its booming data center industry.
Transforming the urban core
The meeting with INOX group director Devansh Jain focused on the government’s ambitious CURE (Core Urban Region Economy) model.
Under this framework, the state aims to convert the Hyderabad metropolitan area into an economy based solely on the service sector, relocating polluting industries to make the city a sustainable and pollution-free metropolis.
To support this transition, the INOX Group plans to:
1. Deployment of Renewable Energy: Initial focus on large scale solar and wind power generation within the state.
2. Sustainable Manufacturing: Future diversification towards the manufacturing of solar modules and advanced energy components.
3. Green Infrastructure: Support the state’s transition to green hydrogen and clean electricity.
Fueling the data center boom
IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu emphasized that the state’s aggressive pursuit of renewable energy is a direct response to the “massive number” of data centers currently being set up in Telangana.
“We aim to meet the high demand for renewable energy for these facilities,” the Minister said, highlighting that the state’s new energy policy offers preferential procurement for local manufacturers to incentivize companies like INOX to build their supply chains within Telangana.
A legacy of policy continuity
Minister Sridhar Babu attributed Telangana’s industrial leadership to the “political continuity” maintained since the 1990s. This stability, along with the new infrastructure push involving greenfield highways and bullet trains, is designed to boost Telangana as a global alternative for high-end manufacturing.
The high-level meeting was also attended by Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, signaling the inter-departmental priority given to the state’s energy transition.
