It promises to be an entertaining day of tennis at the ATP Stuttgart Open with a former Wimbledon finalist (and former semi-finalist) in action in Germany. ATP Stuttgart Day 2 Predictions
Roberto Bautista Agut vs Marcos Girón
Face to face: Bautista Agut 3-0 Girón
Roberto Bautista Agut has participated in two main draws in Stuttgart, but it was more than a decade ago when he won the tournament. Back then it was played on clay, but the Spaniard, unlike many of his compatriots, has an excellent track record on grass. In fact, it is possibly their strongest surface, as Bautista Agut is a former Wimbledon semi-finalist. With confirmation that this will be his last season, Bautista Agut makes one last stop in Stuttgart. Although age has taken some of the sting out of his baseline patterns, his game should still translate well to the grass due to his accurate ball striking. And he has a perfect record against Marcos Girón.

Quentin Halys vs. Sho Shimabukuro
Face to face: Halys 1-0 Shimabukuro
Sho Shimabukuro is on the verge of breaking into the top 100 and the Japanese took a big step at the weekend when he won two qualifying matches without dropping a set to reach the main draw at ATP Stuttgart, backing up his quarter-final run at the Birmingham Challenger in the process. Shimabukuro’s speed on the court may frustrate big servers, but Halys is built for the grass court swing and should be able to rely on his serve to win plenty of free points. Shimabukuro should be able to stay this close, but the Frenchman will probably have too much for him in the end.

James Duckworth vs Diego Dedura
Face to face: first meeting
For a player of James Duckworth’s grass pedigree, last season’s first-round loss to 18-year-old Justin Engel at the ATP Stuttgart Open was one of the most surprising results of the tournament, perhaps even the grass swing. Despite that loss, Duckworth’s comfort on this surface should not be underestimated, particularly against this opposition. Diego Dedura has enjoyed an encouraging rise over the past two years, with a top 250 spot within reach, but has little pedigree on grass courts. This wild card will give him valuable experience for his first professional match on grass, but Duckworth’s higher ceiling makes him a heavy favorite.

Nick Kyrgios vs. Corentin Moutet
Face to face: first meeting
Nick Kyrgios has barely played in the last three years. His only singles appearance in 2026 was a first-round loss to Aleksandar Kovacevic in Brisbane. After such a long absence and with limited play, there are obvious questions about his fitness. But grass should be the tie for him. Kyrgios can effortlessly generate power with his serve and dictate rallies. Corentin Moutet is a creative player who has almost every trick up his sleeve, although he generally prefers longer rallies. That’s where the Frenchman can alter the rhythm. That said, if Kyrgios moves reasonably well and serves close to his usual level, he could secure a victory upon his return.
