Each year, Audubon staff and local chapters bring communities together on and around Earth Day to celebrate birds and wildlife. From volunteer cleanups to birdwatching walks and family events, these programs help inspire people to help protect the planet in their own communities.
With 15 state and regional offices, 31 centers, 29 sanctuaries, and more than 400 community and university chapters, Audubon offers programs that connect people with birds and nature year-round.

Virtual
Building a Bird Habitat Webinar: Design Your Yard for Bird Habitat-Virtual (April 21, 2026, 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.)
Join experts from Audubon Mid-Atlantic and Herring Run Nursery to learn how to design a bird-friendly oasis. Get some examples of engineered plant communities and the best species to attract birds and butterflies, while also being beautiful to people. This is the third in a four-part webinar series on how to build a bird habitat in your home or community. Each session covers a different topic on designing and planting bird-friendly gardens.
Arizona
Earth Day Festival and Volunteer Day—Phoenix, Arizona (April 11, 2026, 7:45 am – 2 pm MT)
Celebrate Earth Day at the Río Salado Audubon Center with a day dedicated to nature, sustainability, and the people working to protect our environment. Join the early bird habitat restoration activity, or simply participate in the festival with guided bird walks at the Salt River Habitat Restoration Area and food, music, crafts and family-friendly activities. Explore volunteer and internship opportunities, see live animal presentations, or join a workshop with Audubon, Arizona Sustainability Alliance, and American Forests.
California
Family Nature Day at Richardson Bay Audubon—Tiburon, California (May 2, 2026, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pacific Time)
Join Richardson Bay Audubon in partnership with WildCare for a Family Nature Day honoring Elizabeth Terwilliger. Take a naturalist-led walk, create a wildlife-themed boat, take on the challenge of adventure, dissect an owl pellet, use binoculars to watch birds from the courtyard of historic Lyford House, meet live non-releasable wildlife and much more.
Connecticut
Earth Day Litter Cleanup—Sharon, Connecticut (April 25, 2026, 10 am Eastern Time)
Join the Sharon Audubon Center and the Sharon Energy and Environment Commission (SEEC) and volunteer to pick up litter on city roads. This is a fun event and a great way to do something for the environment while getting some fresh air and exercise. SEEC provides safety vests, trash bags, and plastic gloves, and the Audubon Center might also offer a surprise to volunteers at the end!
Florida
Earth Day Puzzle Trail at the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey—Maitland, Florida (April 18 and 19, 2026, 10 am – 4 pm ET)
Visit the Audubon Birds of Prey Center the weekend before Earth Day to enjoy the Earth Day Puzzle Trail! This escape room experience will take the player through a series of puzzles to learn about birds of prey and their threats. This activity is best suited for ages 12 and up, but younger children will enjoy it with the help of an adult. Included with admission!
Earth Day Community Celebration-Street. Andrews, Florida, USA (April 18, 2026, 9 am – 1 pm)
Join the Bay County Audubon Society (BCAS) and other organizations at the St. Andrew’s Farmers Market for the annual Earth Day celebration. The reading of the Earth Day Proclamation will begin at 11:45 am. Family-friendly activities include music and dancing, craft and food vendors, environmental vendors, and a tree giveaway.
Iowa
Earth Day Fair—Decorah, IA (April 26, 2026, 9 am – noon CT)
Find the Upper Iowa Audubon Society (UIAS) booth at the annual Earth Day Fair at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds, where you can explore the latest in recycling, composting, renewable energy, solar energy, electric vehicles, native plantings, wildlife habitat, conservation practices and more.
Kentucky
Louisville Earth Festival—Louisville, Kentucky (March 28, 2026, 1 – 5 pm Eastern Time)
Louisville Audubon Society will join Louisville Metro Government’s Office of Sustainability, Parks Alliance of Louisville and other partners to bring back Earth Fest, a kickoff event for Louisville Earth Month. This community festival will feature food, music, performances, art, sustainability activities and local resources, all to celebrate our planet.
Missouri
Little Creek Earth Day—Florissant, MO (April 18, 2026, 8 am – noon CT)
Join the staff at the Audubon Center at Riverlands at Little Creek’s annual Earth Day event for a morning of fun! This event will feature many local partners, hands-on activities, face painting and more.
New York
Earth Day Weekend Marsh Volunteer Project—Garrison, New York (April 25, 2026, 9:30 am – noon ET)
Visit the Constitution Marsh Audubon Center to participate in an Earth Day volunteer project! Volunteers will remove invasive plants and take cuttings from native Dogwood trees to propagate and replant at the Rheinstrom Hill Audubon Sanctuary in Columbia County. After the planting event, volunteers can take a nature walk to the Constitution Marsh boardwalk to look for spring migratory birds and identify flora and fauna along the trail, as well as discuss how climate change is impacting the Hudson Valley area. All ages, prior registration is required.
Earth Day at the Theodore Roosevelt Shrine and Audubon Center—Oyster Bay, New York (April 18, 2026, 8:15 am – 4 pm)
Volunteer outdoors for Earth Day at the Theodore Roosevelt Shrine and Audubon Center in Oyster Bay! Audubon staff will begin the day with a morning bird-watching walk along the sanctuary’s trails. During the day, volunteers will help with projects such as invasive plant removal, garden and trail maintenance, and Tern Shelter construction!
SWAMP! Invasive Honeysuckle Burst at Montezuma Audubon Center—Savannah, New York (April 22, 2026, 9 am to 1 pm Eastern Time)
Everyone is welcome to volunteer with Audubon staff at the Montezuma Audubon Center to remove invasive woody honeysuckle from off-trail wildlife forest habitat! Participants will be provided with any and all tools needed to dig and/or trim vegetation, and volunteers can take on additional duties of scattering native seeds and dragging dug up honeysuckle into brush piles. Hydration will be available at all times and lunch will be provided by Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. Registration is required.
North Carolina
Earth Day 2026—Greensboro, North Carolina (April 25, 2026, noon to 4 pm Eastern Time)
Join the T. Gilbert Pearson Audubon Society for bird and nature walks at this family-friendly event hosted by the City of Greensboro Office of Sustainability and Resiliency. The event, which features organizations committed to nature conservation and sustainability, welcomed more than 3,000 visitors last year and will include a native plant giveaway, children’s activities and on-site food trucks.
Ohio
Earth Care Seed Day Event—Columbus, Ohio (April 18, 2026, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern Time)
Families and groups are invited to participate in multiple projects at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center to help children ages 2 to 12 take action to protect our environment and invest in the future of our planet. Community partners will be on site to educate children about environmental stewardship actions. Join us for a day of fun, education and live music!
Columbus Green Earth Day Event—Columbus, Ohio (April 26, 2026, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Time)
Celebrate Earth Day with Green Columbus at Grange Insurance Audubon Center for this free, family-friendly, zero-waste event. Enjoy hands-on fun, learn about local sustainability efforts, and connect with organizations making a positive environmental impact in our community. Throughout the day, Audubon educators will lead bird and tree walks to educate festival-goers about local species within the park.
Aullwood Native Plants for Sale—Dayton, Ohio (April 24, 2026, 9 am to 4 pm Eastern Time)
One of the area’s largest and first of the season returns in 2026! Shop from more than 12,000 plants representing 181 species suitable for grassland, wetland and woodland habitats, including spring ephemerals, flowering plants, grasses, sedges, shrubs and trees. Proceeds support Aullwood Audubon Center’s conservation and environmental education programs. New this year, bring your own boxes to transport and transport plants!
Pennsylvania
Nature Journal at Mill Grove—Audubon, Pennsylvania (April 19, 2026, 11 a.m.)
Looking for a quiet and creative way to reconnect with nature and improve your observation skills? Nature Journaling invites you to use words and images to collect and record your observations and connections to the natural world. This immersive class teaches you to observe and record the shapes, textures, patterns, and seasonal changes of the living landscape found on the Mill Grove property.
Earth Day Bird Walk—Williamsport, Pennsylvania (April 22, 2026, 8 a.m. ET)
The Lycoming Audubon Society will begin Earth Day celebrations with a Susquehanna Greenway hike in the local preserved wetlands between Bald Eagle Mountain and the Susquehanna River. Walk through the gently rolling landscape and look for a variety of bird species while learning about the vision and ongoing efforts for this special area.
Earth Day on the bridge—Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania (April 22, 2026, 6 pm Eastern Time)
Fifty-six years ago, Earth Day began as a national expression of gratitude for our planet. Join the Lycoming Audubon Society on the River Walk which meets on the north side of Wegman near the river dam. Ample parking available. Look for Audubon signs. With signs and flags, we will walk clockwise, cross the Market Street Bridge and return. Thank you for adding your presence in this simple statement of celebration of our beautiful land.
Texas
Free Admission: Celebrate Earth Day and Native Plant Month—San Antonio, Texas (April 18, 2026, 8 am to 4 pm CT)
Come out to celebrate Earth Day and Native Plant Month and enjoy free admission all day at Mitchell Lake Audubon Center. Bring home educational materials on native pollinator plants to learn which plants would work best in your space. Free native seed packets while supplies last!
