Barcelona had to wait to be crowned La Liga champions after Real Madrid beat Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium on Sunday night.
Hansi Flick’s team moved 14 points clear of their rivals with the victory over Osasuna on Saturday, but Madrid responded with a victory against Espanyol.
After a goalless first half, Vinicius Jr opened the scoring 10 minutes into the second half. The Brazilian scored again in the 66th minute to give Álvaro Arbeloa’s team the victory.
The victory means Barcelona can now win the title on Sunday when they face Real Madrid in El Clásico at the Camp Nou.
The Catalans only need a point against Madrid to successfully retain their title, but they would surely love to beat Los Blancos and make up for the loss at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this season.
Both teams will have only three games left after the Classic. Barça finishes against Alavés, Betis and Valencia, while Madrid faces Oviedo, Sevilla and Athletic Club.
