Cabinet approves 2 semiconductor units worth Rs 3,936 crore; Total approved projects under ISM increased to 12

The Union Cabinet has approved two new semiconductor manufacturing units under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) with a combined investment of more than Rs 3,936 crore.Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said the projects include the country’s first commercial mini/micro-LED display facility based on gallium nitride (GaN) technology and a semiconductor packaging unit.The facilities will be set up in Gujarat and are expected to generate employment for approximately 2,230 skilled professionals.Crystal Matrix Limited will set up an integrated facility for compound semiconductor manufacturing and assembly, testing, marking and packaging (ATMP) at Dholera for manufacturing mini/micro-LED display modules.Suchi Semicon Pvt Ltd will set up an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Surat to manufacture discrete semiconductor components.The government said that with these approvals, the total number of projects approved under the Bharat Semiconductor Mission has increased to 12, with a cumulative investment of about Rs 1.64 lakh crore.The move is expected to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem and advance domestic manufacturing capabilities in high-technology sectors.(With inputs from PTI)
