Virat Kohli has been relentless in breaking records since he entered international cricket and was once on course to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s seemingly unbreakable milestone of 100 centuries.

A prolonged slump in form and a break in achieving consistent milestones may have slowed his pursuit of the daunting target. But with 85 centuries to his name, Kohli could be the only batsman currently who has a chance of closing the gap on the Master Blaster’s record.
However, Tendulkar’s path to a century of centuries was not easy either – it took him 24 years of sweat and 782 innings of work on the field in all three formats.
sports news looks at the question: Can the ‘King’ really catch up to the ‘God’ of cricket?

Chances of Virat Kohli surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 centuries in internationals
Kohli was one of the favorites to surpass Tendulkar’s milestone of 100 centuries in international matches, but following his retirement from Test and T20I cricket, the challenge might have become a little tougher.

The Indian superstar announced his retirement from the red ball on May 12, 2025. He had earlier called it a day in T20Is following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup in 2024.
This leaves him with only one format, ODI, in which he can score the remaining 16 centuries and equal Tendulkar’s record.

How many more ODIs can Virat Kohli play before ODI World Cup 2027?
According to India’s Future Tours programme, India will play a total of 15 matches ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.

Kohli is expected to remain in the ODI team till the end of this tournament. If India reaches the final of that World Cup, it would give them another 12 matches.
That brings Kohli’s equation down to 15 centuries in 27 ODI matches. With his age reaching 37, it remains to be seen if he can continue to rack up hundreds and stay in the chase for this milestone.
The 2027 World Cup is expected to be Kohli’s last tournament, and with only ODIs left, the milestone looks like a monumental challenge. But if the 37-year-old decides to play beyond that as he chases the seemingly unattainable milestone, it could be within reach.
