Srinagar: The Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Tulmulla, Ganderbal, has introduced a series of austerity measures, including online teaching and work from home on Fridays and ‘Green Saturdays’, in view of the prevailing situation.

According to an official order issued by the Deputy Registrar, from May 22, 2026, the university will conduct online classes and allow work from home on Fridays and Green Saturdays for both teaching and non-teaching staff as part of cost-saving measures.
The decision follows recommendations made at a meeting of the Dean’s Committee held on May 13 under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor.
The administration indicated that practical and laboratory classes scheduled for Fridays will be rescheduled for Thursday afternoons to ensure uninterrupted academic activity.
Additionally, it directed that viva voce doctoral exams and workshops be conducted online, subject to feasibility.
The order also states that offline mode may be allowed in exceptional cases with the approval of the competent authority.
It is pertinent to mention that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged schools and universities across India to adopt temporary online classes as part of a nationwide austerity drive to conserve fuel amid the escalating West Asian crisis.
