Govinda had a gun and acted in self-defense at 3 a.m.: manager recounts attempted attack

Govinda’s representative has alleged that an attempt was made to attack the actor at his residence. Speaking during an interview with the news agency. ANIShashi Sinha, who has been associated with the actor for over 30 years, revealed that Govinda acted in self-defence and had a gun in his hand. He said the actor protected himself from a group of unidentified people during the same incident. However, he did not reveal when exactly the incident occurred.

The director strongly rejected what he described as “exaggerated and malicious” narratives circulating against the actor.

“This nonsense that is being spread in the market – that Govinda has become this or that – none of that has happened,” he said. “No one knows him better than us. I know Govinda. Life is unpredictable; sometimes situations turn unexpectedly, that happens in everyone’s life. But here, his situation has been exaggerated in such a way that he is projected as a criminal, as if he is about to commit a crime and should be beaten or even killed. These are the kind of things that are said. The abuses and humiliations that we have had to hear, we are very aware of it,” he said.

Is Govinda’s manager referring to the October 2024 incident?

Sinha did not specify the date of the incident but mentioned that it occurred between 3 and 3:30 am when a group of unidentified men allegedly gathered near Govinda’s residence. He did not clarify if this incident is the one that occurred in October 2024, when the actor had accidentally shot himself in the leg and was hospitalized.

The situation was tense, Sinha said, adding that it could have worsened if Govinda had not acted instinctively to protect himself. He stressed that the response was purely in self-defense and maintained that the actor “did nothing wrong.”

“That night, between 3 and 3:30 in the morning, a lot of people had gathered. At that time, Govinda had a mobile phone in his hand and if he had not also carried his gun, God knows what could have happened,” the manager said. “We are very grateful that the situation has not worsened. If those people were genuine, they should have stood their ground and said who they were. It was only because he had a gun that he managed to talk to them and scare them away,” he added.

He said video footage of the incident exists and can be shared if necessary. “Everything is recorded on video with me. If necessary, I can show it. Something in the situation was clearly wrong, even if their plan did not succeed. Later, those people returned and I also arrived there. All this is documented,” he said.

The manager added that there were no security personnel present at the time, which increased the risk that the situation could become serious. He said the matter was reported to the police and a formal entry was made at the local police station.

While he did not give specific details, the manager confirmed that Govinda suffered injuries while acting in self-defense.

The clarification comes more than a year after another high-profile incident, when Govinda was hospitalized following an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound in October 2024. At the time, police sources said there were no indications of foul play.

According to a news agency report PTIA team led by senior police inspector Daya Nayak had visited Govinda in the hospital, where supposedly explained that his licensed revolver slipped and accidentally discharged while he was home alone.

In November last year, Govinda was hospitalized again after he passed out at home. He later spoke to the media and explained that the episode was the result of excessive physical activity, which caused fatigue.
