Cremonese host Fiorentina in the final match of the Serie A Week 29 schedule on Monday night, but Davide Nicola will have to do without centre-forward Jamie Vardy for tonight’s huge relegation clash. Here’s why.

Only one point separates 18th-placed Cremonese, who fell into the relegation zone last weekend, and 17th-placed Fiorentina ahead of the teams’ meeting at the Stadio Zini on Monday night.

Vardy’s exclusion comes following the knock he suffered against Lecce in Serie A last weekend. Cremonese has confirmed that the official diagnosis is “blunt force trauma to the right thigh.”

The 2016 Premier League winner has been a starter for Cremonese for most of the 2025-26 season, and has only missed two Serie A games since his summer signing, which came in the second and third weeks of the season.

The Englishman has five goals and one assist in 24 games in the Italian top flight this season. 21 of those appearances were starts.
