Although the MotoGP World Championship started rolling almost two months ago in Thailand, in the paddock the tagline is usually used that the … The true start of the season is marked by Jerez, which is when it lands on European soil, which it will not leave until the month of October. A restart of the championship that this year has been more marked than ever, since after the first three rounds of the season (Thailand, Brazil and the United States), came the unexpected stoppage caused by the postponement of the Qatar Grand Prix, the result of the regional conflict in which the entire Middle East is immersed. In total, three weekends in a row without races that most have taken advantage of to recharge their batteries and basically prepare for such a demanding phase of the World Championship.
That has been the case of Marc Márquez, who began the season suffering from discomfort from the latest injury to his right shoulder and who during the Austin race also suffered a serious fall in training that left him sidelined for the rest of the grand prix. «I arrived well. We have had three full weeks at home and I think that has been good for me to try to take another step forward. I can say that I am at an optimal level to compete to the maximum. We will see it during this weekend, so that we don’t talk more about the physique, but about the performance on the track, and that he enjoys the bike more because with discomfort and pain it is not enjoyable,” commented the Cervera rider in the preview of this Spanish Grand Prix.
The current MotoGP champion has not had the expected start to the championship. On the one hand, conditioned by his physique, which until now has not allowed him to ride the Ducati with his style. And on the other hand, for the clear step forward that Aprilia has taken, the brand that today dominates this season with an iron fist. Márquez has not yet been able to win a Sunday race and his best results have been achieved in the Saturday sprint events, with a victory in Brazil and a podium in Thailand. The Spaniard has not won a grand prix since September, at the Misano circuit. That was his 99th victory in all categories. The number 100 is about to fall and the Jerez-Ángel Nieto circuit would be the perfect setting to become a centenary. A condition that only Giacomo Agostini (122) and Valentino Rossi (115) have reached.

Marc Márquez has won three times at the Jerez circuit, although the last date was in 2019. He should have also added 2020, where he was the fastest by far, although that race, which was intended for exhibition, ended up marking the future of the Cervera driver forever. The fall in Turn 3 fractured his humerus and what followed was that whole nightmare of operations, comings and goings, that almost took him away. The Andalusian track still owes one to the nine-time world champion, who could collect it this weekend.
To the rhythm of the Aprilia
Marc Márquez will not have it easy. He is not even the favorite, said by himself: «I have not even made a podium on a Sunday this year; So, you can’t choose not to make any podiums but to win a race. That favoritism goes to Marco Bezzecchi and the Aprilias, who this year have proven to be intractable. The Italian is a solid leader of the championship after winning the three grand prix contested, in which he has led all the race laps. And if he is not more prominent in the classification it is because he failed in the sprints on Saturday.
Jerez is the promised land for Spanish drivers. The stage where they dream of winning since they were children. Álex Márquez achieved it here last year, in his first victory in MotoGP.
Bezzecchi has three wins in a row and in the last two podiums he has been accompanied by the second Aprilia of Jorge Martín who, thanks to his consistency at this start of the season, is only 4 points behind his teammate. However, he prefers to be cautious, after an almost blank year due to the different injuries he suffered in 2025. “If I have the opportunity to get a victory, I will kill myself to go for it, but I am not going to do more than what I can do because then another injury will come, which is what I don’t want,” commented the Madrid native.
Jerez is the promised land for Spanish drivers. The stage where they dream of winning since they were children. Álex Márquez achieved it here last year, which was also his first victory in MotoGP. The current runner-up in the world has not had the desired start to the season, with a best result of sixth place. Quite the opposite of another of the fans’ favorites, Pedro Acosta, third in the championship after the Aprilia and who every weekend pursues what would be his first victory in MotoGP. It is not easy for him with his KTM, compared to the Ducati and the Aprilia, and in addition, the Austrian factory will miss the only confirmed casualty in MotoGP, Maverick Viñales, who is recovering from a recent operation on his left shoulder.
