
Srinagar, May 2: The Srinagar Meteorological Center has forecast a spell of unsettled weather in Jammu and Kashmir for the next few days, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms expected at several places.
According to forecasts, on May 2 there could be brief light rain or showers in scattered places, mainly during the afternoon, accompanied by gusts of wind. The weather is expected to become more active on May 3 and 4, with generally cloudy conditions and one or two periods of light to moderate rain or thundershowers in most places. Thunder, hail and wind gusts reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h are likely in some places, especially during the morning, afternoon and evening.
On May 5, scattered areas may again experience brief periods of light rain or afternoon showers. From 6 to 9 May, conditions are expected to remain largely dry, although short, isolated showers cannot be ruled out. A similar trend is likely to continue between May 10 and 12, with mostly dry weather and occasional light rain in isolated places.
The MeT department has issued a warning about possible hailstorm and gusty winds in parts of central and north Kashmir as well as some areas of Jammu division. The authorities have advised the suspension of boating and shikara operations during the afternoon and evening of May 3 and 4. People have also been urged to stay away from loose structures, power poles and cables.
Farmers have been advised to suspend farming operations between May 3 and 5 in view of the expected weather conditions.
