    May Forecast – Julia Berolzheimer

The month of May always feels like the final race. The kids are counting down the days to summer vacation, and the calendar is suddenly booked for weeks. I admit the pace may seem a little frantic, but it is one of my favorite parts of the year. Charleston is in full bloom, the evenings are getting longer, and there’s an excitement for the change in energy ahead.

Much of this month has been built around things that have been in motion for a long time: the Mexico trip we planned last year, our formal living room we started designing with Summer last spring, a new collaboration we’re finally starting. This is on my radar for May.

    what are we doing

    • Last month of school! The kids are counting down the days, and we’re in a panic to fit in as much as possible before they have to be at home all day!
    • We’re visiting the home of our interior designer Summer Thorton in Mexico! We’ve been planning this since last year and can’t wait!
    • Some of my favorite fine jewelry designers have been coming to Charleston! I came over from Sherman Field to shoot a feature with Danielle and got a chance to preview their latest collection (it’s so colorful and I love it), I had the pleasure of co-hosting a pop-up last week with the brand Highsport along with RetroVie (a brand I’ve long loved and have a few pieces for), and I finally got a chance to meet Irene Neuwirth at an event held at The Dewberry last week – another brand I’ve long loved. I loved it for a long time and probably have the most pieces of it. Than any other designer. Jewelery is very personal and with fine jewellery, it is wonderful to touch and try it on. Because of the price point, many of these pieces I will sit and think about for months (or years) before making a decision. For example, my Sherman Field locket (sold out, same here), which is probably my most worn piece, was a long-awaited purchase.
    • I’m starting the design process this month for a collaboration that will launch in spring 2027. It’s a brand that you all love – and it’s a brand that feels great and I’m so excited about it! We also have two more launches this year!
    • I’m excited to dig down This month with Yesteryear, after reading Conform in January (recommended by a close friend)
    • Thomas’s birthday is at the end of May, so I’m already trying to consider gifts for him – he shops too much (he only likes practical things).
    • Our formal meeting room is being set up at the end of the month! We designed this room last spring summer and it’s finally *almost* ready. The room has been under construction for the past month and I can’t wait to see it completed.
