Manuel Akanji says there is no chance of returning to Manchester City after his loan spell at Inter Milan this month.

City have suffered a number of defensive injuries of late, with Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and John Stones currently sidelined.

Akanji joined Inter, who face Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday, on loan for the summer season.

Inter are also believed to have an obligation to buy the defender on a permanent contract if they win Serie A this season.

And Akanji has suggested that he hopes to stay at the Italian club for longer than this campaign.

“The previous question was whether I would return in the winter and I said there was no chance,” said the Swiss international.

“I don’t know what will happen in the summer.

“It doesn’t just depend on me, we’ll see what happens at the end of the year, but I’m very happy here and I hope this continues. We’ll see.”

However, Manchester City have strengthened their defense with the signing of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace on a five-and-a-half-year deal.
