The four qualifiers for the main draw of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix have already been decided. American Alycia Parks defeated Bulgaria’s Viktoriya Tomova 6-4, 6-2 in the qualifying final. Aliaksandra Sasnovich comfortably beat Frenchwoman Oceane Dodin 6-1, 6-1. Top seed Zeynep Sonmez (Türkiye) lived up to her number one status by beating Anna-Lena Friedsam 6-4, 6-0. The German made life difficult for her rival in the first set but in the end she had no response. The fourth ticket to the main draw was obtained by the Czech Gabriela Knutson, who defeated Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 6-3.
Start of the main draw with Laura Siegemund
The start of the main draw places Porsche Arena’s center court in the spotlight. Laura Siegemund will face Bulgarian loser Viktoriya Tomova, who replaced the injured Pole Magdalena Frech – not before 6.30pm – in the first singles of the day. The local hero and winner of Stuttgart 2017 stressed from the beginning that the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix was “simply special” and “like no other tournament.” For her, the event will always be something special.
Next, Croatian Antonia Ruzic will face Liudmila Samsonova. The match at the Porsche Arena will begin with the doubles match on court 1 at 2:00 p.m.
Porsche One Point Challenge
The premiere of the Porsche One Point Challenge will precede the first individual meeting of the day on the center court at 4:30 p.m. Under the motto “A single rally can decide everything”, each match of the new spectacle will consist of a single point. Tennis stars such as Jasmine Paolini, Elina Svitolina, Jelena Ostapenko, Paula Badosa, Porsche Friend Eva Lys and Ella Seidel will compete, as well as Julia Stusek and Eva Bennemann from the Porsche Talent Team. Also in the line-up are world endurance champion and former Formula 1 driver Mark Webber and Fabian Bredlow. In addition to five ambitious fans, the winner awaits an exclusive trip to Istanbul for two, courtesy of Turkish Airlines Holidays.
