Veteran actor Saif Ali Khan recently spoke about how filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s hit franchise ‘Dhurandhar’ has completely changed his perspective on cinema and storytelling. Praising the Ranveer Singh-directed action thrillers that took the box office by storm in late 2025 and early 2026, Khan stated that the industry can now be divided into an era “before ‘Dhurandhar’ and a time after.”” The ‘Kartavya’ actor specifically praised composer Shashwat Sachdev’s innovative and globally inspired musical approach, highlighting the song ‘Shararat’ as “revolutionary” amid discordant numbers. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Saif explained that the success of the franchise has made him see films differently. He believes the industry now has the opportunity to embrace new ideas rather than following traditional formulas. Sharing his thoughts, Saif said, “I see a time before Dhurandhar and a time after. It’s up to us whether we catch up or not and whether we wake up or not. It seems like an obvious idea to make amazing music instead of creating a new album for every film, and draw on all kinds of things from around the world, without being too afraid of English.“
Saif Ali Khan comments on the music of ‘Dhurandhar’
Saif Ali Khan also praised how ‘Dhurandhar’ incorporated music into his narrative. According to him, the songs were designed to integrate naturally into the narrative rather than existing only as promotional tracks. He felt that this style made the musical sequences more immersive and believable. The actor suggested that this approach could influence how filmmakers use the songs in future projects. The music for the franchise was composed by Shashwat Sachdev. The albums included original songs such as Shararat and Gehra Hua. The sequel, ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, followed a similar musical format combining original compositions with remixes and recreated songs. Both soundtracks received a strong response from listeners and performed well on streaming platforms.
Why did ‘Shararat’ stand out?
Among the songs featured in the franchise, Shararat left the biggest impression on Saif Ali Khan. The dance number features Ayesha Khan and Krystle D’Souza and appears during the wedding celebrations of Ranveer Singh’s character Hamza. Rather than functioning as a separate performance, the song unfolds alongside the film’s narrative. This narrative choice particularly impressed Saif. Explaining why he admired the sequence, he said: “Something as revolutionary as that, imagine if that changed the way you hire a beautiful leading lady to do a ‘feature’ for you. If you just treat it like a song and have these two girls performing like you would at a wedding, it doesn’t draw attention at all.”“
