Summer rush eased: Indian Railways runs over 900 special trains

Planning a trip this summer but worried about the rush to secure train tickets? You may want to relax as Indian Railways is preparing for seasonal rush. If you’re traveling between April and July, chances are you’ll find a seat. Anticipating a sharp increase in passenger demand, Indian Railways has announced a wide network of special train services aimed at making travel across the country easier and more convenient.A total of 908 summer special trains have been approved for the period between 15 April 2026 to 15 July 2026, which will operate a total of 18,262 journeys. The move is designed to meet the increased travel demand during the busy months of holidays, festivals and seasonal activities.Of the total sanctioned services, 660 trains have already been notified, accounting for 11,294 journeys. This ensures that a significant portion of additional services are already open for booking, allowing passengers to plan their journeys in advance.The preparedness of the rail network extends to all major regions, reflecting a coordinated effort to handle increased passenger numbers while maintaining regional balance in connectivity.

  • South Central Railway has approved 124 trains (1,184 journeys), while 76 trains (324 journeys) have already been notified.
  • Western Railways is second with 106 sanctioned trains (2,078 trips), of which 92 trains (1,667 trips) have been notified.
  • North Western Railway has approved 76 trains (2,245 journeys), including 62 notified services (1,878 journeys).
  • Northern Railway has approved 76 trains (2,090 journeys), with 56 trains (1,535 journeys) notified.
  • Central Railway has approved 74 trains (3,082 journeys), of which 70 trains (2,238 journeys) have already been notified.
  • Southern Railway has sanctioned 72 trains (558 journeys), of which 38 trains (133 journeys) are notified.
  • East Central Railway has approved 64 trains (2,711 journeys), including 38 notified trains (1,060 journeys).
  • North Central Railway has approved 54 trains (1,163 journeys), of which 46 trains (688 journeys) have been notified.
  • North Eastern Railway has approved 52 trains (814 journeys), while 34 trains (477 journeys) have been notified.
  • East Coast Railway has sanctioned 28 trains (410 journeys) including 18 notified trains (88 journeys).
  • West Central Railway has also approved 28 trains (408 journeys), with 18 trains (192 journeys) notified.
  • Eastern Railway has approved 24 trains (392 journeys), out of which 10 trains (276 journeys) have been notified.
  • North Frontier Railway has sanctioned 24 trains (220 journeys) including 20 notified trains (141 journeys).
  • South Eastern Railway has approved 20 trains (276 journeys), while 18 trains (250 journeys) have been notified.
  • South East Central Railway has sanctioned 10 trains (122 journeys) including 8 notified services (70 journeys).
  • South Western Railway has approved 76 trains (509 journeys), out of which 56 trains (277 journeys) have already been notified.

Large-scale deployment of these special services is expected to reduce pressure on waiting lists, offer more confirmed berths and improve connectivity between major destinations. It also aims to make travel easier and more comfortable during the high-demand summer period.With this, Railways has taken another step towards advanced planning and wide network of additional services while reducing inconvenience to passengers.
