Women’s T20 tri-series: West Indies beat Ireland by eight wickets in Clontarf

The West Indies claimed a comfortable eight-wicket victory against Ireland in the opening match of the Tri-Nation series at Clontarf Cricket Club.

Batting first, Ireland struggled early on and were reduced to 23 for three during the powerplay.

Captain Orla Prendergast, the team’s leader in the absence of Gaby Lewis, was the top scorer with 25 and combined for a 44-run partnership with Leah Paul.

However, the home team was eventually bowled out for 103 in 17 overs.

West Indies also lost early wickets with Ava Canning dismissing Deandra Dottin and Qiana Joseph.

Captain Hayley Matthews then guided her team to victory and recorded an unbeaten 82 runs off 44 balls to take the West Indies to their target of 104 with over eight overs to spare.
