Yami Gautam clarifies after being criticized for liking video shading Kriti Sanon
Yami wrote that celebrities are tagged in various posts every day. She said: “I noticed that I apparently ‘liked’ a reel that is condescending towards another actor. We get tagged in various things every day, and this came up during an award function reference like any other tag. It’s not true and it definitely wasn’t done consciously; if anything, it may have been clicked accidentally.”
Yami talks about cheap PR tactics
He said he has never been part of “cheap public relations tactics.” “I have never resorted to cheap PR tactics in my life. I have always focused on my job and moved on. In the world of clickbait, it is tempting even for worthy social media portals to dwell on this and turn it into coffee table gossip. But I hope they consider that I have earned a better reputation than that,” he added.
“I don’t have a PR team, I respectfully clarified my stance on the entertainment awards a long time ago and I’m still focused on my job (crossed hand emoji),” her post concluded.
What happened that led Yami to issue a statement?
At the event, Kriti Sanon won the Best Actress award for her role in Tere Ishk Mein over other nominees. A section of people online said that Yami deserved it for his role in Haq. Next, a video criticizing Kriti for her win appeared on Instagram and Yami liked it. The video showed Kriti happily flaunting her Best Actress award after the win. It’s edited with Yami stating in a previous THR India interview, “You try everything and it still doesn’t work. So I stopped looking for any kind of validation. If I get that award, then I’m a good actress, and if not, I’m not. None of that.”
The video ended with the question “Is it fair?” referring to how Kriti got the award over Yami. One person wrote: “How insecure is Yami? She’s always been openly putting others down.” One comment read, “Why so much hate towards Kriti winning the award? Kriti ko mile ya Yami ko award, you both deserve it (whether Kriti or Yami wins it, you both deserve it).”
