Of is no stranger to viewers Lost comparisons. Beyond starring Lost student harold perrineau, Of has a lot more in common with ABC’s 2004 hit. Both Of and Lost It tells the story of a group of people trapped in a desert area with no way out and no way to contact the outside world. Whether a town or an island, both settings feature sinister monsters and strange situations loaded with symbolic meaning.
Both stories are made up of a diverse group of strangers who are forced to work together to survive and unravel the mysteries of their surroundings. The worlds seem to have a larger, almost divine design, and their castaways seem somehow destined to be a part of it.
Of and Lost Both are enhanced by their large set of specific and unique characters that give each show a singular voice. Equally detailed are Ofmunicipality of and Lost‘s island, which, for all their similarities, have their own detailed history that distinguishes each show. However, Of season 4 has brought its story closer to Lost than ever before.
Of addressed the concept of time travel in season 3, with Ethan calling Julie’s abilities “walk through history.“Time travel became an important part of LostThe story too, also in its final seasons. Logistically, this invites new comparisons, but in reality it was the dialogue in Julie’s book. Of season 4 time travel story that created a new and unexpected connection with Lost.
In season 4 episode 2, Julie quoted Jack from Lost almost word for word
In Season 4, Episode 2, “Fray,” Julie began to explore the implications of her ability to tell stories. Still stunned by Jim’s death, she realized that maybe she could revisit the moment of Jim’s death and stop it. Ethan had already warned Julie that she probably couldn’t alter the past, and this seemed to prove true at the end of Of season 3.
However, “Fray” saw an increasingly frantic Julie enlist Randall’s help in exploring her ability with a “panic-stricken” man.I have to go back!“This line probably struck a chord with fans of Lostas it deeply evoked the moment when, after escaping the island, the badly struggling Jack declared to Kate: ““We have to go back!” It is perhaps the most quoted phrase in the program.
Not only are the lines nearly identical, but Julie shared Jack’s desperation to return to a painful place, something that seemed not only undesirable but impossible from an outsider’s perspective. Randall is interested in supporting Julie, but has always seemed skeptical of Julie’s use of her ability, focusing on the risks it poses to her rather than the impact it may (or may not) have on others.
Julie’s story is more like Lost than ever
Interestingly, this is not the only line in Julie’s story that goes back to Lost. Of Season 4 picked up right where it left off, with the Man in Yellow turning to Julie, a narrator walking through the story, and saying: “You can’t change a story after you’ve told it.“.
Of has taken a much more metaphorical storybook approach to its depiction of time travel, but this line from the Man in Yellow effectively conveyed the same feeling as LostThe time travel mantra “What happened, happened.” In both stories, the conclusion is the same: the past is immutable. In both stories, the characters insist on trying anyway.
the premises of Of and Lost They lend themselves well to time travel stories. Both shows are set in worlds that cannot be physically expanded. While, to a certain extent, new characters can be introduced to Of and Lostworlds, which can quickly become boring and implausible. This leaves time as the only way to successfully grow the story within the confines of your world.
Since time travel is better than getting lost
Until now, OfThe time travel element is much more contained than Lost‘s, and this is a strength. In his last seasons, Lost found himself in a confusing web of time, with frequent and unpredictable moments of time travel that left different characters at different points in time. It was interesting, but also dense, convoluted and over the top of the story.
In OfJulie is the only one who can time travel, and because of what it does to her body in the current timeline, she can’t do it for long. All of these factors work well to prevent the introduction of time travel from overwhelming the story. Julie’s brief forays into other times allow Of revealing fragments of the past in contained fragments, rather than relocating the entire story to another time.
The perfect replacement for Lost is one of the best mystery box shows on TV right now
Lost has had many replacement shows, but the best one is one of the best horror shows of all time and is gearing up for its fourth season.
Having time to travel to Julie also allows the other characters to continue their individual journeys in the township with equal weight. Time travel hasn’t changed the entire show. Rather, it has given Julie purpose without interrupting ongoing plots like the fallout from Fatima’s pregnancy and Tabitha and Jade’s reveal at the Bottle Tree.
Julie’s abilities will almost certainly play a role in the show’s ultimate conclusion, but only time will tell if Of is capable of achieving its end more effectively than Lost.
