But this reckless Russian couple decided to do it the other way around, illegally and at risk of death. On July 1, Russian rooftops Angela Nikolau and Ivan “Vanya” Beerkus shocked New Yorkers and the world when they climbed the Empire State Building’s antenna tower, which sits nearly 1,454 feet (443 meters) above the streets below.In the video you can see the couple without any visible security equipment at the top of the building. Then they went down to a platform, the couple kissed, unfurled a banner that said:“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world knows peace.”Beerkus gets down on one knee and proposes to her, she accepts and they kiss.The couple is now arrested.But moments later, NYPD officers arrested the couple after they got off. Now, the couple faces multiple charges including robbery, criminal trespass, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.The video of the dramatic incident went viral in a short time, not only because it occurred at the top of one of the most recognizable tourist attractions in the world.The attraction that defines New YorkThe Empire State Building is a historic site that was completed in 1931.
