McCarron, at Hanley Swan, said she felt lucky to have filled her 2,000 liter tank for £1,200 before the conflict began.
The oil will last her household of four, including her mother, daughter and husband, until autumn.
“If we had ordered it a week and a half later, I think it would have cost us about £1,000 more,” he said.
Families are naturally using less hot water during heat waves.
But, mindful of cost fluctuations, they are also taking steps to reduce their fuel consumption, as well as “spending a little extra cash”.
“There’s a limit to what you can do with it, because it’s our only source of heating and hot water,” he said.
She believes improved safety for heating oil customers is “very important”, but she would like to see more attention towards renewable sources.
“I think the real solution is to stop using oil,” he said.
“We are considering solar panels but there is very little support out there for people who want to consider alternative ways to run their home.”
